Sexism at work: create awareness among trade union personnel about the use (and the effect) of gender stereotypes
Internal practiceDuration
1 week.
Reason it was developed
It was an initiative of ACV Gender, to create awareness of the use of gender stereotypes by colleagues, union members. It still exists.
Activities
In every lunchroom / coffee corner where colleagues meet, we put a poster with stereotypical phrases. People see this and start to discuss: is it okay, is it derogatory, do you like it, do you say such a phrase. A day after we send each colleague an email with more information about stereotypes and why it’s important to be alert for it.
Results
People talk about it and experience why not everybody likes such phrases. The importance of this awareness is also integrated in our congress. We plan also a commitment against gender-based violence at work: every staff member can sign this commitment.
